The End

Hello,

My last post to you was when we were on our way from Maun to Windhoek in the car, we eventually arrived there (10 hour drive) and had a well earned diner at Joe's. One word.... Divine, I gorged myself on Kudu, Springbok and Eland Fillets. I practically rolled out of the restaurant.

Next day we headed off to Swakopmund on the West Coast of Africa, it is situated in one of the oldest deserts in the world, the Namib. I'ts quite a strange place though, you could be walking through a typical german city but there are sand dunes everywhere!! hmm. Here we had some nice things lined up, the pelican and seal tour which is what it says, pelicans and wild seals jump onto the boat to get fed fresh fish, and some adrenaline packed quadbiking in the desert dunes. Nothing like driving full speed up and down dunes almost 350 meters high!!! COOOOOL!

And, I suppose it had to happen, after 3 monthes of driving in some of the busiest places on earth (cairo/turkey/addis to name but a few) for the first time we had an accident. Yup in little old Swakopmund we hit the car of a Mrs Pfaferfott. An old german lady who was much to close to the Hippo. And just like in the wild if you get to close to a dangerous animal it reacts. This time by reversing into her bumper! whoops. Luckily it was only a small bump but seeing as it has to go through the insurance we had to get an official police report, at the police station ....what a disaster.

It was chaos, people doing nothing, people doing everything except what they are supposed to be doing, people being released out of their cell's , people being put back into their cells?? And of coarse the officer filling out our report who kept on dissapearing for no reason at all. Eventually it took almost 3 hours to fill out ONE form!! Well it's one more memory to take back with us to Holland.

But after 3 days in Swakopmund it was time to leave for our last home stretch to Cape Town. It only took us 4 days to get down there, staying in Marinthal, Noordoever, Citrusdal at the hot water springs(relaxing) and then Stellenbosch where we naturally did some wine tasting, lekker lekker! We could have stayed longer in Stellenbosch but we were itching to see Cape Agulhas.

And so after 3 and a half monthes we finally found ourselfs at the most southerly tip of Africa at Cape Agulhas. This was it no more going south anymore!

It was finally time to ritually open the bottle of champagne (which was purchased the day before in Stellenbosch on our wine tasting trip :-) and make a toast to our long way home adventure.

There was a moment of silence when we both looked out at the Atlantic ocean, where on the one hand I was so happy that we had made it, it also made me sad as I realized that our trip was comming to an end.

But that was bound to happen, and luckily I have some fantastic memories to take back home with me.

The only thing left to do now is drive the Hippo back up to my parents house in Joburg where she will be cleaned and get some new tyres(Hippo really needs them) and then put her up for sale. But this is not the end of her travels, I'm sure that the Hippo will be back in the bush soon giving some other overlanders a great adventure.

And so before I forget, I would like to thank some people,

Jude for letting me go on this trip and taking care of everything back home, you really are the best babe!!!

Mum, and dad for all your help with the car and insurance papers:).

and everyone else for reading our stories and taking time to write on our blog, It's great to know that people are following you!

And of course my mate Maurice for making this an unforgettable experiance.

So for now its Au revoir and who knows maby till the next blog with a different adventure!
