Over ons/onze reis
Beacuse a lot of the people will be reading this blog don't understand Dutch I will be writing in Enlish and Maurice will be writing in Dutch. We will put a E or a D to state whether the blog is in English or in Dutch
D Hallo allemaal,

E Hi Everyone,
Thanks for following us on our trans african safari to South Africa.
We are Lance and Maurice and we decided about 5 years ago to organise a overland safari by car from our respective countries and towns of birth namely Hengelo in Holland to Benoni in South Africa. Last year we finally decided to set a date when we would start our adventure and with a lot of planning regarding work etc. we decided on the 10th of Feb of this year.
But first a little backround info on us and the trip:
I am Lance and I was born in Benoni South Africa. Maurice was born in Hengelo The Netherlands
We are both 34 years old and attended flight school(KLS) together. We stayed in contact after finishing the KLS and even work at the same airline now(KLM). We realized a few years ago that we had a lot in common. One of the things was a big desire for adventure.
Seeing as the whole world has gotten very small due to the ease of flying, 'something we know everything about' we decided that a to have a real adventure we would have organisde a safari the same way people used to do it 50 years ago :BY CAR straight through Africa and not just any car but a true English Landrover Defender!. (This may come back to haunt us )
We decided to buy the car in South Africa rather than in Holland as we would be able to buy one that was Overland ready, this would save us a lot of time and money.
So last year February we started looking at cars and we found one is South Africa that would be perfect. And as fate would have it, it was also for sale in my home town of Benoni!!
Seeing as my parents still live in South Africa and not to far away they went to have a look for us. Thanks Mum and Dad.
The car was in good nick as my Dad put it and he said that it would be able to get us from Holland to South Africa. Lets hope he's right!!!
So after a lot of planning and phone calls we finally shipped the car over to Holland in September and have been preparing it ever since for our trip.
So after reading this I hope that you will follow us on our Long Way Home from Hengelo Holland to Benoni South Africa .
